About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio musicians with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name comes from the Latin word that means "all encompassing," the group was intent on exploring all styles of music.
In 1981 the third album by Toto Turn Back was a complete failure However, they resurface with their fourth release Isolation which contains two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour made them a household brand around the world.
After a gap of couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. It's a change from the ballads of their previous albums and also includes some heavy rock. This album was their first to go platinum in North America.
During the recording process of the fifth album The group loses its manager and faces financial challenges. They decide to record a new album and change their name with a different producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is more natural as a frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band releases Mindfields and begin an extensive tour across the globe. After a few weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring group is comprised by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

After Isolation Toto was put on absence. This gave the members of the group the chance to pursue their own projects. In 1996, the group reformed to tour and record an album. It was the first time that the original members took to the stage together for more than a decade.
The following year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the last time all of Toto's original members appeared performing at the same time. After that, the group broke up again. Toto returned for a benefit concert in 2010 to raise money for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in 31 year that all of Toto's founding members were on stage together. The album marked a return to form for the band and the tour supported it with sold-out shows in North America and Europe. The reunion of Toto gained momentum with the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
